The meeting, held on Friday, July 29 at the Casona de Las Condes campus of the Universidad Andrés Bello, allowed students to show the research and theses they are working on, discuss them with their peers and receive feedback from other researchers of the Saphir Millennium Institute.

With a reminder of the multiple opportunities for scholarships, specializations and international projects available to students working with Saphir Millennium Institute researchers, Professor Sergey Kuleshov, Director of our institute, inaugurated the First Saphir Winter Workshop for Students. This was held at the Casona de Las Condes campus of the Universidad Andrés Bello on Friday, July 29th.

Nearly twenty students (in person and remotely) from our host universities (Universidad Andrés Bello, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Universidad de La Serena and Universidad de Tarapacá) had the opportunity to present and receive feedback on their research in a manner similar to how it is presented at scientific congresses and workshops. The search for dark matter, detection and mapping of dangerous radon gas emanations in buildings and the study of particle decay are some of the topics they are investigating.

The students also took the opportunity to visit Saphir's particle physics laboratory, located at the same Casona de Las Condes campus of Universidad Andrés Bello.

Professor Kuleshov urged them to continue their research careers in the area of particle physics both at CERN and in other projects and research groups in Chile and the world. Particle physics is much more than theory, he explained: there is electronics, creation of technological components, engineering, machine learning, data analysis, industrial applications and, of course, the search for knowledge about the fundamental laws of the universe.
