Francisca Garay, deputy director of the Millennium Institute SAPHIR and academic at the Institute of Physics of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, has been invited to participate in the prestigious Congreso Futuro (CP).

The event, which will take place between Monday, January 15 and Friday, January 19, 2024, will feature prominent speakers and will address issues related to Artificial Intelligence, how this disruptive technology has been installed in a short period of time and the ways in which it has improved or changed the way we work.

Interest in science

From an early age, Francisca showed an interest in astronomy and gradually discovered a fascination for physics. "Part of my time was spent translating entries from an encyclopedia, which was in English, of anything related to that discipline," shesays .

In her outstanding career as a researcher and science communicator, she has collaborated in projects of great relevance, such as ATLAS at CERN, where she is an active member of the research developed. In addition, she created "Atomic Girls", a science outreach initiative that she has led together with Giovanna Cottin, a researcher at the Millennium Institute SAPHIR and also an academic at UC.

A unique event in Chile

He considers his participation in CF "a great honor and an incredible opportunity to share with the general public what Chile, and in particular SAPHIR, is doing in this field" .

In this context, the prominent science communicator will give a talk entitled "The Legos of the Universe" on Friday, January 19 at 12:40 p.m., which promises to explore fascinating aspects of particle physics and how our country is part of the new research and projects.

In relation to the importance of holding events like this at the national level, the doctor in physics emphasizes that "it is of utmost importance to have these events that keep the general public informed about what is happening in science, as well as to invite reflection on scientific topics and create collaborative networks within the community".
