The SAPHIR Millennium Institute is proud to announce the recent CERN resolution, in which the Council approved the admission of Chile as an Associate Member State, subject to the completion of the accession and ratification processes in each country (Source: home.cern).

The incorporation of Chile into CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, represents a milestone in the consolidation of a long-standing and fruitful relationship. For decades, Chile has been a key player in the field of particle physics, collaborating closely with CERN in research on the subatomic particles that make up matter. Chile's experience has been decisive in the development and implementation of cutting-edge technologies, such as particle detectors, essential for experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world's largest particle accelerator.

This new stage opens unprecedented opportunities for Chilean scientists and institutions to have direct access to advanced technologies and large-scale international projects. Over the years, Chilean researchers and students have contributed significantly in areas such as detector design and experimental data analysis. Membership will reinforce the country's capacity to innovate and transfer knowledge, fostering the training of new generations of researchers and strengthening scientific collaboration between Latin America and Europe.

The role of technicians, engineers and academics of the Millennium Institute SAPHIR has been fundamental to position Chile as a strategic partner in subatomic particle research. Its participation in large-scale projects, such as the ATLAS, SND and NA64 experiments of the LHC, demonstrates that Chile actively participates worldwide in high-tech fields. SAPHIR has also facilitated the training of numerous students and professionals at CERN, promoting the development and improvement of critical equipment in particle detection.

The recent acceptance of Chile at CERN is a recognition of the excellence of the work performed by Chilean professionals and SAPHIR's decisive contribution to technological and scientific progress. This achievement not only strengthens Chile's position in the international arena, but also opens new possibilities for collaboration that will boost frontier research and knowledge transfer both nationally and globally.
