We mourn the death of Dr. Iván Schmidt Andrade, one of the scientists who contributed to the establishment of one of the first spaces for the study of particle physics in our country at the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María.

His initial training was in the area of engineering, however, he continued his professional projection in the sciences obtaining a Master of Science degree from the University of Pittsburg and, later, a Doctor of Physics degree from the prestigious Stanford University .

Later, with the foundation of the Scientific and Technological Center of Valparaiso (CCTVal), its commitment with scientific development at a national level materialized. This center not only boosted international collaboration with the insertion of researchers and academics in our country, but also with the training of young researchers, professionals and technicians; who today work in some of the most important laboratories and organizations at an international level.

Beyond remembering his academic career, we want, as a team, to express our admiration and deep respect for Dr. Schmidt.

Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.
