The academic from the UC Physics Institute and alternate director of SAPHIR participated in the scientific meeting held in Paestum, Italy, strengthening Chile's presence in the ATLAS collaboration at CERN.
ATLAS Collaboration Week 2025, held October 13-17 at the Centro Congressi Hotel Ariston in Paestum (Salerno, Italy), brought together scientists from around the world to discuss advances in the ATLAS experiment, CERN's largest particle physics research program. During the week, the international community reviewed recent results in high-energy physics, detector upgrades, new data analysis strategies, and planning for future data-taking cycles at the Large Hadron Collider.
Representing Chile was Dr. Francisca Garay, professor at the Institute of Physics of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and alternate director of the Millennium Institute SAPHIR. Her participation helped reinforce Chile's scientific contribution to the ATLAS collaboration, establish links with European groups, and strengthen networks that promote knowledge exchange, talent development, and the projection of emerging lines of research in experimental particle physics.
The event was organized by the INFN Napoli Section, in conjunction with the University of Naples Federico II and the Università di Napoli Parthenope, with the support of a distinguished local committee made up of researchers from these institutions. In addition to technical work, the event provided opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, strategic discussion, and logistical coordination, which are essential for sustaining the complex global operation of the ATLAS experiment.
Dr. Garay's participation reaffirms the importance that the Chilean community has acquired within major international scientific collaborations, highlighting the role of the Millennium Institute SAPHIR as a training and research center in subatomic physics, and projecting new opportunities for students and young researchers in the country.
