The SAPHIR Millennium Institute has been dedicated for more than three years to research in subatomic physics and is linked to leading international scientific centers, such as CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and the European Atomic Energy Agency (EIA).. Within this context, it received a visit from a committee that traveled to Chile to meet and evaluate the institutions that are part of the active agreement between our country and the European organization.

The visit was part of a three-day tour of Chile, during which the delegation will analyze the country's scientific and technological landscape. the delegation will analyze the scientific and technological panorama of the country, specifically the partner universitiesThe visit was part of a three-day visit to Chile, during which the delegation will analyze the scientific and technological panorama of the country, specifically of the partner universities working on CERN projects such as UNAB through the SAPHIR Millennium Institute, Pontificia Universidad Católica and USM through the Scientific and Technological Center of Valparaíso.

All of the above, with a view to the possibility of Chile becoming an associated state of CERN, following an application made in 2023.In the event that it becomes a member, Chile would become the first Latin American country to join this organization.

To obtain associate state status, interested countries must meet specific criteria established by CERN, including academic, research, innovation and industrial capabilities, as well as governmental support, among others.
