Between January 11 and 24, 2026, the city of Santiago will become the epicenter of international science and technology by hosting the CERN School of Computing - Latin America, which will be held at the Lo Contador Campus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. The arrival of this prestigious school in a country like Chile reflects the growing national prominence in frontier scientific research and, in particular, in particle physics. In this context, the Millennium Institute SAPHIR plays a fundamental role as a bridge institution between the research developed in our country and CERN in Switzerland, articulating collaborations that today allow Santiago to host an academic meeting of global scope.

The school's academic program will last two weeks, with about 50 hours of classes and practical exercises focused on three main areas: computing for physics, software engineering and data technologies. Students who choose to take the final exam will receive an official diploma awarded by CERN and the School, consolidating a training of excellence in a space that for the first time is held in Chile. In addition to the academic component, a social and cultural program will be developed that will allow participants to get to know the historical and natural wealth of Santiago and its surroundings, reinforcing the importance of our country and the SAPHIR Millennium Institute acting as hosts and articulators of a meeting that strengthens the ties between the international scientific community and Chilean research linked to CERN.

The CERN School of Computing (CSC), created in 1970, has trained thousands of students in scientific computing architectures and data science. Its mission is to create a common scientific culture in computing among young researchers and engineers involved in particle physics and other sciences, promoting mobility and facilitating the development of transnational computationally oriented projects. The school seeks to bridge the gap between science and technology, ensuring that scientists master computational tools to drive their research, and that computer science experts understand scientific challenges to deliver solutions tailored to research needs.

The 2026 edition in Santiago de Chile, organized in collaboration with the Millennium Institute SAPHIR and the Pontificia Universidad Católica, is aimed at graduate students (minimum undergraduate degree or equivalent), engineers and scientists with some years of expeTending bridges between science and computation: the CERN School of Computing comes to Chileriencia in particle physics, computation or related areas. The call is open to participants of all nationalities, with special emphasis on students from Latin America. Applicants must ensure that their home institution will fund tuition and travel; however, those with proven financial limitations may apply for partial tuition sponsorship.
