The visit of the Undersecretary of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Cristian Cuevas, to the Millennium Institute of Subatomic Physics at High Energies - SAPHIR, represents a fundamental milestone in strengthening the ties between the institutional framework and the advanced science being developed in Chile. This type of meeting highlights the relevance of frontier scientific research carried out in the country, especially in the field of particle physics, a key area for the understanding of the fundamental phenomena of the universe. Collaboration between academia, research centers and government institutions is essential to promote public policies that support the development of science, technology and innovation, allowing Chile to position itself as a global reference in these disciplines.

In addition, this visit has a symbolic impact by consolidating the importance of frontier science in the national agenda. Particle physics not only boosts knowledge worldwide, but also generates technological advances with potential applications in various sectors.

"The objective of this meeting is to approach the institutional framework of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, in the context of Chile's accession as an associate member state. We want to show the scientific work of SAPHIR through the participating universities and the different projects we develop, mainly seeking to increase our capacity and current funding. There is a great Chilean responsibility in the development of certain projects and the fulfillment of strategic milestones", explains Felipe Olivares León, Executive Director of SAPHIR.

By strengthening the collaboration between the Ministry of Science and the Millennium Institute SAPHIR, a fundamental bridge is established that will allow the promotion of future scientific and technological initiatives, with a focus on innovation and international leadership. This interaction opens new opportunities for Chile to continue being a leader in cutting-edge research, contributing to the progress of global science and local development in the technological field.

The Millennium Institute of Subatomic Physics at High Energies - SAPHIR, is a research center funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), under the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation of Chile. This institutional linkage makes the visit of the undersecretary of the ministry particularly relevant, as it offers an opportunity to learn first-hand about the work being carried out at this outstanding research center.

"The visit of Undersecretary Cristian Cuevas is very important for us, as it aims to establish a link with the authorities that govern science, technology, knowledge and innovation in the country. In addition, it seeks to show what SAPHIR is doing, what we do as a research center, and our participation, mainly, in CERN, of which Chile hopes to be part of as an associate member state very soon. Obviously, SAPHIR is a fundamental part of that puzzle," says Jack Brady, SAPHIR's Director of International Relations.

The work carried out at SAPHIR is closely related to the particle detector experiments carried out at the CERN laboratory, one of the world's most important research centers in the field of particle physics. The presence of the Undersecretary reinforces the importance of supporting this frontier research and highlights how the work developed in Chile contributes to scientific advances at a global level, consolidating the connection between national science and the most innovative international projects.
