IOP Publishing is a scientific publisher that has just published the North America: Top Cited paper Award list highlighting the most cited papers within the platform, which includes about 90 journals in the areas of greatest scientific interest. On this occasion, Giovanna Cottin, a young researcher at the SAPHIR Institute, received, together with her team, the recognition as one of the most cited texts in the area of physics.

The distinction refers to the paper entitled "Searching for long-lived particles beyond the Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider", published in the . This recognition is based on the number of times an article within the platform was cited during the period 2020 and 2022.

The paper deals with "thecurrent status of the searches for long-lived particles at the LHC and aims to outline a concrete path for the development of these searches in the future of the LHC (both in current and future experiments)," explains the PhD in Physics and UC academic.

Her contribution was as editor of the text in which she was in charge of "defining which simplified models in theories beyond the Standard Model predict long-lived particles, and how, in a better way, experiments can contribute useful public information for the reinterpretation of current searches to other theoretical models of interest that are not necessarily being searched with these signals (such as theoretical models that explain the mass of neutrinos or dark matter)".

This achievement is an encouragement for the team behind the elaboration of the paper: "This is a paper done in community, together with experimentalists and theoreticians. This is a paper done in community, together with experimentalists and theoreticians, where we even invited the whole community to endorse the document.. The paper sets the state of the art in long-lived particle physics. This recognition demonstrates the impact that our work has had in the field of particle physics and that makes me very happy", said the researcher.
